I have a great idea for a youtube video. You see, I have this new baby and I have a car seat and I also have a nice big motorcycle. NO, NO, No, no. Don't call the cops. Let me finish. What would happen if I strapped an (EMPTY) car seat onto the back of the motorcycle, rode around town and someone was following behind video taping the reactions? There are 3 things preventing me from doing this: I wouldn't use our only car seat for fear of damaging it, I need a willing co-conspirator with a video camera and Andrea thinks I would get arrested. I even have an outline:
Scene 1: Me explaining how it really is safe for babies to ride on motorcycles as long as the car seat is, of course, properly attached.
Scene 2: Time lapse of me attaching the seat to the motorcycle
with bungee cords and duck tape.
Scene 3: Me covering myself head to toe in riding gear because "safety first" plus someone might try and beat me up and I want lots of padding.
Scene 4: Close up of baby being placed into car seat shot previously in the house when he had a legitimate need to be placed in one.
Scene 5: Cue the steppenwolf! I'll take off and cruise around downtown Austin where there are lots of pedestrians and traffic. Cut in shots of baby in car seat with vibration effects added. When people look at me in shock and question me, I'll shrug my shoulders and point out how the baby is snug as a bug. I'll even reach back and pretend to tickle his tummy while giving a thumbs up to the bewildered observers. This could go on through several traffic lights until...
Scene 6: Either I get beat up or arrested.
Scene 7: Me explaning the whole thing to State Child Protective Services when they show up at our house.

Andy,
Love your blog. Love your family. Can't wait to meet Collin now that nasty cold is resolving. You do not want to meet CPS. Keep writing!
Aunt Bettie
I have to admit, I had similar thoughts a few days ago when I was strapping the car seat bases into our cars. They don't really give you much to work with for places to hook a bungee cord. Bummer. I wonder if side cars have anchoring points for a car seat...

Andy, I can make your dream a reality. Let's talk.
