The last couple of days Collin has been teaching me all the things I can do one-handed. There is a surprising number! So far we haven't invested in a baby container for downstairs. We have his crib upstairs and if he is asleep downstairs we have a sling/baby chair thing we can put him in. But if he is awake and squirming, we have to hold/carry him. (I'm sure we will get something eventually, but for now we are happy with the baby containers we have). During the brief times that Andrea is not nursing and Collin is awake, Andrea really needs to take care of herself and I get some quality Collin time, but sometimes I need to do things other than just sit and stare at him (which I would be happy to do for hours).
I've found that I can:
- Empty the dishwasher
- Feed the dog
- Get a glass of iced tea
- Get a snack
- Take out the trash
- Check the mail
- Talk on the Phone
- And many others
But I can't:
- Heat up a frozen dinner
- Open a can or jar
- Peel a banana
- Feed the Cat (requires the can-opening skill)
- Do laundry
- But the number one thing I can't do... is pee!
